Grow West Annual Event Cancellation - Please Read

Grow West is one of our longest commitments to a partnering role with another landcare organisation. This year, they've got some sad, but not entirely unexpected news.

The reality for us is that, 10 years on from our formation, we're that much older and some of us definitely are more at risk from the virus than others - and indeed this is true of the age range of the volunteers that turn up each year. So it's a very good and responsible decision by the Grow West team.

Read on to see what Helena has to say..
Hello all.

Hope everyone is keeping well.

I have some sad news to share. After much discussion and monitoring of the current Covid-19 situation, Corinne and I have made the hard decision to cancel this year’s
Grow West Community Planting Day event. With the current Covid-19 restrictions, it seems very unlikely, at this stage, that they will allow mass gatherings of 100-200 people come mid-July. The other consideration that also played a part in this decision are some of the volunteers who are in the vulnerable category that assist us with the logistical elements of the event, such as; the Lions Club - catering, 4WD Mobile Landcare Group - ferrying volunteers and equipment and the Friends of Werribee Gorge and Long Forest Mallee - setup and team leaders. Along with our many dedicated volunteer participants.

As this is a large event with many logistical components, a decision had to be made sooner rather than later. We will be notifying all are volunteer participants shortly and speaking with our sponsors, Melbourne Water, ANZ and Bendigo Bank to discuss the funding that they have provided for the event.

Rest assure that the tree planting will still go ahead with contractors instead of volunteers.

Kind regards,

Helena
