Landcare Australia has provided sustained and much appreciated mentoring and encouragement to the VMLCG. Farm Tree and Landcare Association - this is the organisation we joined to provide network connections, common interest discovery and public liability insurance coverage.
We have worked with Parks Victoria
in the removal of Sallow Willows from the Bogong Unit of the Alpine National Park for 9 years now.
The VMLCG intends to continue to engage the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) on projects where our capabilities can be used by the Department. We undertook a survey of the Jirnkee Gold Race near Omeo which was used by DSE and Heritage Victoria for management and cultural values purposes.
The Regent Honeyeater Project is a story of conservation success and inspiration; a story of perseverance and dedication of a small group of volunteers who have inspired hundreds, if not thousands, of people to travel up to the Lurg Hills near Benalla and be part of a group helping to reforest the Lurg Hills, together with local landowners. Project Platypus used us to coordinate many clubs associated with 4WD Victoria to move volunteers around a steep Wimmera property and plant 12,000 trees in 2006. The Baynton-Sidonia Landcare Group operates in the Bendigo-Redesdale area and VMLCG worked with them on the McHarg Ranges Plantout prior to the Commonwealth Games. They don't have a web site but contact us and we can put you in touch with them.

The Victorian Malleefowl Recovery Group (VMRG) protects the endangered malleefowl in Western Victoria. VMLCG is developing skills and approaches to assist and augment their monitoring activities. A pilot project has been held, with many learnings delivered as to how we engage in remote desert areas with a broad range of volunteer skills (it is nowhere like easy in Mallee bush!) Bronwyn Ridell has been associated with Landcare for more than 20 years and currently facilitates indigenous and immigrant community support via landcare activities, supported by Citylink. The VMLCG is very pleased to be able to be associated with Bronwyn's work and assist her programmes with volunteer time and our in kind support.
Fintona Girls' School
As well as partnering with Fintona on willows removal in the high country, the school generously allows the group to hold its general members' meetings at the school every second month.
Viking Lodge, Falls Creek - thank you for supporting our work in the high country by offering a reduced rate for accommodation for the Fintona willows weekend.
